Renovation work at Hamad General Hospital and Women’s Hospital

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is undertaking an extensive program to renovate and refurbish existing facilities at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) and Women’s Hospital (WH).

We are doing this to ensure we continue to offer the highest quality healthcare to our patients in a caring, safe and appealing environment.

Every effort will be made to ensure that any disruption to services is kept to an absolute minimum. However there will be changes to the way in which both buildings are accessed and patients, their families and other visitors are advised to be aware of these changes.

Women’s Hospital

 All outpatient clinics and appointments will continue to operate as normal, however, the entrance to the Outpatient Department (OPD) at Women’s Hospital has been temporarily closed. Patients will instead need to access the department through the main entrance of the hospital. The temporary entry route has been specially signposted to help patients and visitors find their way easily and safely. 

Hamad General Hospital

From 10 August, the main entrance lobby area of HGH will be totally closed for renovations.  There will be no access at all to or through the lobby area for a period of up to six months. 

Lobby services will be relocated to other areas of the hospital and alternative entrances will be provided.  The temporary alternative entrance for patients and visitors, located to the left of the closed main entrance on the female side of the outpatient department, will be clearly marked.

Several traffic lanes in front of the HGH main entrance will be blocked to accommodate the construction project.  Spaces in front of the temporary alternative entrance will be reserved for patient drop off and pick up only. 

Although we have worked to plan and manage traffic flows throughout this phase of the renovation, there may be delays.

To avoid delays, patients and visitors are advised to arrive 30 to 45 minutes early for appointments at HGH.

Relocation of Services at HGH

Services currently offered in the lobby area will be relocated to other parts of the hospital, as follows:

The Admitting Department will be located at the registration area of the Female Outpatient Department (OPD).

Cashiers will be located at the registration area of the Male OPD.

Female OPD patients will register for their appointments at the registration counter in the Male OPD.

ATMs will be available in the OPD lobby and the HGH visitor lift lobby leading to inpatient rooms

Helpdesk staff will be placed near the temporary main patient and visitor entrance

The flower shop will be temporarily relocated in the corridor near the visitor lift lobby.

Mutawa offices, security and lost and found will be temporarily housed in the Female OPD. These offices will be clearly sign-posted.
