ALBAWABA - The wife of Syria's interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa has taken discussions on social media after she made her first appearance next to her husband.
Latifa al-Sharaa, who recently became the First Lady of Syria following the collapse of the former Syrian regime headed by ex-President Bashar Assad, was spotted next to her husband in Mecca as they performed Umrah during a visit to Saudi Arabia.
A video has circulated online showing Ahmed al-Sharaa with his wife Latifa wearing Umrah clothes and walking side-to-side inside Masjid al-Haram on Monday.
It is worth noting that the first foreign trip made by al-Sharaa was to Saudi Arabia where he met with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. "We held a long meeting during which we felt and heard a genuine desire to support Syria in building its future," Ahmed al-Sharaa wrote on Telegram.
In fact, Latifa al-Sharaa appeared for the first time during a meeting that brought together al-Sharaa with some Syrian expatriates at the presidential palace in Damascus. She was introduced by her husband al-Sharaa to the Syrian women, who live in the US, about two weeks ago. He confirmed that Latifa is the only woman in his life.
Who is Latifa, the wife of Ahmed al-Sharaa?
According to Al-Arabiya sources, Latifa al-Sharaa is from the Al-Daroubi family and comes originally from the city of Al-Qaryatayn, which is part of Homs Governorate on the outskirts of the Syrian Badia, and is approximately 85 km away from Homs province.

Rumors and allegations also suggest that Ahmed and Latifa al-Sharaa have three kids, however, no one confirmed this information yet.
The new Syrian president for the transitional period rarely talks about his private life in the interviews he gives, but he made it clear in a previous interview with Al-Arabiya that he moved around a lot and was forced for a period to live with his wife in one of the Syrian mountains, in a remote place.
He also once said that he was born on Oct. 29, but the civil status records officer misheard the date and wrote July 29.
