ALBAWABA - A video recently flooded social media, capturing several Somali men holding the Israeli flag as one praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israel recognized Somaliland as a country.
Similar to the clip in question, several others captured many holding the Somaliland flag alongside the Israeli flag to celebrate the decision.
According to a translation on X (formerly Twitter), the Somali man said while holding the Israeli flag, "Netanyahu is the best man in the entire world, the one who answered our phone call. The way you made us happy today, we ask Allah to make you happy."

According to DW, Israel's recognition of Somaliland triggered global political backlash across Africa and the Middle East, as the EU urged Somalia to protect its sovereignty. Israel became the first country to recognize Somaliland, triggering celebrations among some individuals.
Anouar El Anouni, an EU foreign affairs spokesperson, said "reaffirms the importance of respecting the unity, the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia." He added in the statement, "This is key for the peace and stability of the entire Horn of Africa region."
In response to Israel's recognition of Somaliland, the official Somali government condemned its decision, viewing it as an attack on Somalia's sovereignty.
