ALBAWABA Meltem Günay, a journalist with a longstanding tenure at the pro-government media outlet TGRT Haber in Turkey, faced dismissal as a news anchor after being seen with a Starbucks coffee cup during a live broadcast. The termination of Günay's contract occurred following the Christmas Eve segment.
In a Sunday statement, the channel unequivocally condemned the actions of news anchor Meltem Gunay and an unnamed director, leading to the termination of their contracts for "just cause."
"We do not approve of this action of the presenter and director, whose employment contracts were terminated, and we strongly condemn it," TGRT Haber said in statement on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The explanation provided emphasized that it is strictly prohibited for announcers on TGRT News TV to present in a manner that covertly advertises any company.
The statement further asserted the institution's awareness of the sensitivities of the Turkish people regarding Gaza, pledging unwavering support for these sentiments.
