ALBAWABA - North Korea was hit by massive floods and landslides that left at least 4,000 people killed, in response, President Kim Jong-Un ordered the execution of about 30 officials, South Korean media reported on Tuesday.
Around 20 to 30 North Korean officials were executed after they "failed to prevent" the floods that hit the Chagang Province in July 2024, an official in the Kim Jong-Un government announced.
Not only did it kill 4,000 people in the Chagang Province, but the floods also displaced 15,000 others.
South Korean TV Chosun said the officials were charged with corruption and dereliction of duty during the massive floods and landslides, TV Chosun reported.
"It has been determined that 20 to 30 cadres in the flood-stricken area were executed at the same time late last month," TV Chosun reported citing the North Korean official.
According to the report by South Korean media, the identities of the officials who were executed at the same time were not uncovered, but it was said that Kang Bong-hoon, the Chagang Province Provincial Party Committee Secretary since 2019, was among them.
