ALBAWABA - A man in Kenya was arrested for running a ring that facilitated the trafficking of Kenyans to the Russian army to put on the frontlines amid the war with Ukraine, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced on X.
Kenyan police said a man called Festus Omwamba was caught by Kenyan authorities after sending more than 1,000 Kenyans to Russia.
Omwamba, 33, was held in Moyale, a border town with Ethiopia, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement on X yesterday.
He is "believed to be a key player in (an) extensive human trafficking syndicate," the statement read.
In detail, the man launched a recruitment agency, Global Face Human Resources, which was used to deceive people and send them to join the Russian army, where they fought Ukrainians.
AFP recently spoke with four Kenyans, of whom three were injured in Russia and were able to return home. One said he was told he'll be working as a salesman, while two others said they would be security guards, and the fourth was a high-level athlete, but it turned out to be a big lie.
