ALBAWAB - Israeli authorities slammed U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris's proposal to cease the Gaza conflict. Harris called for an end to the violence after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, highlighting the need to protect Israel, free captives, and alleviate Gazan suffering. She also lamented the humanitarian disaster, calling child relocation and killing a tragedy.
Harris said, "This conflict must stop to protect Israel, free prisoners, and alleviate Gazan misery. Palestinians must have independence, dignity, and self-determination."
Itamar Ben-Gvir replied on X, "There will be no end to the war, Madam Candidate."
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also commented on X, accusing Harris of disclosing the actual purpose of the planned accord, which was to capitulate to Yahya Sinwar and rehabilitate Hamas. He advised avoiding traps.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported a top Israeli political source who opposed Harris's words, hoping they wouldn't "obstruct the deal to return the kidnapped." The source noted that Harris's statements contradicted Israeli views on the conflict and Gaza's humanitarian crisis.
According to Axios, Netanyahu and his team were astonished and dissatisfied by Harris's harsh public remarks following their meeting. An Israeli source worried that Harris's remarks would give Hamas the perception of a Washington-Tel Aviv divide.
