ALBAWABA - As the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) are rapidly retaking control and recapturing regions from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), many unconfirmed reports claim that Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has left the country.
RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti, rose against the Sudanese forces in April 2023 and was allegedly said to have left the country recently after he lost control of many main regions inside Sudan.
BBC reported two days ago that the army in Sudan now controls many regions across the capital region, encompassing Omdurman, Bahri, and Khartoum.
Did Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo 'Hemedti' escape Sudan?
Social media users have been circulating allegations about the escape of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), the commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, to an unknown location.
Many also claimed that Hemedti had abandoned his soldiers and militias to meet their fate in Sudan.
On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal reported that the commander of the RSF, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has not appeared in public for months raising speculation about his whereabouts and his brother taking over the leadership of the forces.
The newspaper quoted Sudanese officials and activists as saying that Hemeti's absence had a negative impact on the morale of his fighters, as hundreds of them withdrew from the capital towards their homes in Darfur.
A former fighter in the Rapid Support Forces revealed to the newspaper that most of the Rapid Support Forces fighters feel that Hemeti has abandoned them.
However, a spokesman for the RSF confirmed to the newspaper that these forces still control most areas of the capital, Khartoum.
