ALBAWABA - Bulgarian boxer Svetlana Staneva sparked debate across social media after holding up the (XX) chromosome amid losing to her Taiwanese opponent Lin Yu-Ting at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

After her defeat, Staneva pulled some gestures to get cheers from the audience and then made the (XX) chromosome sign using her fingers to hint that Lin Yu-Ting is a "biological male" and not a biological female despite official documents saying otherwise.

(XX) chromosome means biological female while (XY) refers to biological males. The Bulgarian boxer's gesture quickly swarmed social media including X (formerly known as Twitter) and streaming site Rumble sparking debate among users.

Here's what some social media users had to say about the matter, some took to Yu-Ting's defense while others spread hateful comments about her:

"Women can be born with XY just search It up."

"Imagine running a parody account only to abuse it by spreading hate and misinformation."

"Lin’s ID number begins with 2, which means that she’s a born female. Losing the game happens and is not something bad while losing the dignity and humanity of telling the truth is shameful."

"All biological women should've said no to fighting against men playing dress-ups. This is disgusting and sickening!"

"Trans people and all those other weirdos should have Translympics... stay away from the normal society (maybe they can have their own island)."

Algerian boxer and current Paris Olympics semi-finalist Imane Khelif cried during an interview after being bullied across social media over her appearance and claims that she's a transgender man.

Claims about her being transgender started after she defeated Italian boxer Angela Carini at the Paris Olympics who later apologized for not shaking Khelif's hand and quitting only 46 seconds into the bout.
