ALBAWABA - A series of videos by several Afghani women singing in protest of their recent voice ban by Afghanistan's Taliban went viral across social media, sparking debate among users as they expressed their anger and concern over the matter.

According to Sky News, the Taliban recently announced that the reason behind banning women's voices in public was to "Combat vice and promote virtue."

Moreover, the harsh rule which breaches many international human rights laws adds that Afghani women are not allowed to sing or read outside and that their voices shouldn't leave their homes' walls triggering the videos in question to protest against the issue at hand.

A 23-year-old woman stated, "It's not ok for any regime or man to shut the Afghani women's mouths." Moreover, she went on to express how she's not a weak woman but a woman from Afghanistan, showcasing how she won't stay silent for her rights.

Moreover, several videos on social media showcased Afghani women, single or in a group singing in protest under the slogan, "My voice shouldn't be banned" and "No to Taliban."

Other Afghani women living outside of the country joined the protest with one stating that they "don't fight using weapons, but their voices and image."

Social media users took to platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their anger about the matter. Here's what some had to say:

"A woman's voice in public is a moral violation but murdering and terrorizing people in the name of religion isn't. Someone has their priorities mixed up."

"This is haunting."

Another blamed it on "Islam" to which someone replied, "This isn't compliant with Islamic teaching. This is tyranny."
