ALBAWABA - Sudanese were shocked to see their artefacts being sold on the online website "eBay" with credits that the items being sold were "Egyptians".
The Sudanese war began on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The low security and continuous fights led to the looting of many Sudanese museums.
However, what was more heartbreaking to many was that the antiquities were being displayed to be sold for cheap prices on eBay.
Several experts reported that they spotted Sudanese gold and pottery paintings and artefacts listed for sale on eBay, but as Egyptian items.
Many Sudanese joined a social media campaign to share an "eBay" ad, which promotes the sale of a piece that includes three statues on one base (a man, a woman and a child) and it was written on it that it is an ancient Egyptian artefact offered for sale at $280.
Despite that on eBay the item is listed as an Egyptian one but a Sudanese archaeology expert confirmed that "the displayed statue is an imitation of a piece in the museum."
The expert further noted that there are ads for "pottery, gold and paintings that were in the museum and are actually for sale online."
