A year’s worth of deals in five days

World’s major suppliers of furniture, fixtures and fittings turn out for INDEX 2008, the biggest interiors event in the Middle East

Exhibitors at the biggest interiors event of its kind in the Middle East and Asia can make a year’s worth of deals in the five days of the show, according to the organisers.

The world's major suppliers of furniture, fixtures and fittings are taking part in INDEX at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre which was inaugurated today (Wednesday 3 December 2008) by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

“Nearly 1800 companies from 60 countries are exhibiting in this year’s event, which runs until Sunday 7 December 2008,” said Bernard Walsh, Managing Director of dmg world media Dubai, the show organisers.

“For international and regional exhibitors, INDEX is fundamental to boosting and accelerating annual sales in the Middle East,” he added. “They can achieve a year’s worth of marketing, brand-building, networking and deal-making in just five days at INDEX.

“More of the Middle East’s high spending professionals, architects, interior designers and specifiers attend Index than any other event because it is the most comprehensive sourcing opportunity for furnishings and contract interior design in the region. Tens of thousands of products and services under eight core product categories are on show.”

While there may be some slow down on major projects, there are still record breaking contracts across the Gulf Co-operation Council countries for the fit-out of commercial and residential buildings, hotels, retail outlets and mixed-use developments nearing completion, said Walsh.

“With numerous buildings reaching completion, there is still tremendous regional demand for residential, contract and public furniture,” he added. “That encompasses flooring and wall coverings, lighting and art, accessories and window products, textiles, ceramics, kitchen and bathroom furniture and interior design services.”
INDEX 2008 is open each day to professionals and trade visitors and from Thursday 4 December the show is open to the general public after 5 pm for an entrance fee of AED 50. There is a special evening opening from 5-10 pm on Friday 5 December.

A "park-and-ride" scheme to reduce traffic congestion around the event is also in operation. In addition to the normal car parks at the venue, the event is served by additional car parks around Dubai with buses linking them to the centre. Special buses also link with hotels in Sheikh Zayed Road and major shopping malls.
