Five people were killed Monday in a "huge" fire at Jordan Customs Department yards in Abu Alanda area, southern Amman, and 20 were injured, according to the Civil Defence Department (CDD).
An officer at the media office of CDD told The Jordan Times over the phone that the fire erupted after two containers of fireworks exploded. The containers were under investigation by customs officials as fireworks are not permitted in the country of Jordan.
At the time of the phone call with CDD media department, fire fighters were still working to extinguish the blaze. Several vehicles parked at the yard were damaged by the fire, CDD said.
