ALBAWABA - As war continues in the Middle East region, German car manufacturer Volkswagen is in talks with Israeli company Rafael to start producing components for the Iron Dome defense system.

The Financial Times reported Tuesday that German automaker is discussing a deal with Rafael to produce transport trucks, launcher parts and generators at the Osnabrück plant in northwestern Germany.

If they reached a deal, Iron Dome components would be made at Volkswagen's plant at the Osnabrück factory.

According to sources, under the proposed deal, the German company is set to generate specialized trucks for transporting interceptor missiles, parts for launchers and power generators.

However, Volkswagen won't be making the interceptor missiles themselves, The Financial Times said in its report.

On the other hand, the report also revealed that if the deal is inked, then Volkswagen will avoid laying off 2,300 employees, as the decision to slow car production at the plant was approved years ago.
