Ten Iraqi security personnel have been killed and five others injured in an apparent case of US "friendly-fire."

The deaths came as the Iraqi officers chased armed men in the town of Fallujah, a local police chief said Friday, according to Sky News. It was the second friendly-fire incident in the town in two days.

Seven police and 10 members of the auxiliary Facilities Protection Services personnel had chased in two cars gunmen in a BMW who opened fire on the governorate headquarters in the town center.

When they reached the Jordanian Red Crescent hospital to the north of the town, they ran into US soldiers who opened fire on them, said constable Abdul Rahman Khodeir.

Large numbers of Fallujah residents gathered outside both the governorate and police headquarters to protest over the incident.

On Wednesday, US troops shot dead one Iraqi policeman and seriously wounded another after a bomb struck their convoy on the outskirts of Fallujah. (Albawaba.com)
