US Navy Secretary Richard Danzig will arrive in Shanghai Thursday for a seven-day visit to China aimed at broadening contacts and exchanges and promoting a greater degree of transparency in China's military affairs, US officials here said.
"Secretary Danzig is slated to hold meetings with various Chinese military officials as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a wide range of contacts with the Chinese leadership," a US embassy spokesman said.
The visit will be the first ever to China by a US navy secretary.
During his trip, Danzig will address China's Naval Surface Command Academy in eastern Nanjing city and Beijing University, the spokesman said.
Danzig's trip comes following visits to China by US Secretary of Defense William Cohen and Commander-in-Chief of the US Pacific Command Dennis Blair -- BEIJING (AFP)
