A total of 15 Jewish Scholars in America have protested against Israeli practices against the Palestinians, calling on the administration to restrain Israel.
In a letter to the Guardian Newspaper Thursday, monitored by Iranian News Agency, Noam Chomsky the famous Sociologist and Linguist from MIT and Simona Sharoni, a professor at the Evergreen State College, along with 13 other scholars expressed their "urgent concern" about the "safety" of Palestinians.
"As American Jews we write out of urgent concern for the safety of Palestinians living under Israeli military occupation and Palestinian citizens of Israel" they said in the letter.
They also expressed their urgent concern for the "neglect" of what they described as "US obligation to use its influence with the government of Israel" in order to "protect Palestinian lives.”
They find four areas particularly worrying three of which include “excessive" use of force in "suppressing" Palestinians, "arming and encouraging" settlers in West Bank and "pogroms" against Palestinian citizens of Israel by "Jewish mobs".
In the letter, the authors believe their country as the "principle financial, military, diplomatic and political backer of the Israeli government, has a responsibility to act in order to ensure compliance with international law by the Israeli government. "
Noam Chomsky is one of America's most prominent political dissidents. A renowned professor of linguistics at MIT, he has authored over 30 political books dissecting such issues as US interventionism in the developing world, the political economy of human rights and the propaganda role of corporate media.
He has been supportive to the Arab issues, a stand he blatantly expressed during the Gulf crisis when he attacked US double standard policies – Albawaba.com
