The US auto parts firm Delphi Automotive Systems is to build its first Slovakian plant in the western city of Senica to produce cable systems for a subsidiary of the German car maker Volkswagen, Senica Mayor Lubomir Parizek said Thursday.

Financial details of the investment, estimated at around 700 million koruna (16 million euros, 13 million dollars), should be made public in the next two weeks, he added.

The plant is to employ around 1,000 employees and produce wiring for the Volkswagen Colorado, an all-wheel drive sports utility vehicle being jointly developed with Porsche, sources said -- BRATISLAVA (AFP)
