ALBAWABA - In a recent development, the United States launched a new military offensive, targeting facilities associated with the Houthis in Yemen.

According to credible sources at CNN, the airstrike focused on a radar installation utilized by the Houthi forces. Notably, this strike was characterized as smaller in scale compared to the previous attack and was executed solely by the United States.

Al-Masirah, a channel aligned with the Houthis, reported that the US and the UK conducted a series of airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, adding to the escalating tensions in the region.

The airstrikes occurred in the late hours of the previous night, covering various locations in Yemen, including the cities of Sanaa, Hodeidah, and Taiz.

Recent aggressive actions by the Houthis, particularly targeting commercial vessels in response to Israel's actions in Gaza, prompted multiple shipping companies to suspend operations in the Red Sea.

On December 6, 2023, the Pentagon disclosed ongoing discussions regarding the establishment of an international coalition, termed the "Maritime Task Force," aimed at countering Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. Subsequently, on December 18, 2023, the formation of a multinational mission named "Operation Guardian of Welfare" was announced.

The Houthi assaults, endangering the transit of ships through the strategically vital Suez Canal, which facilitates approximately 12% of global trade, have raised concerns about a potential new "supply chain crisis" impacting the global economy.
