A police officer was killed and two others were wounded late Tuesday when gunmen shot at their checkpoint in the town of Badrashin, Giza.

Some reports indicate the damage is higher - three dead and five wounded - but the Egyptian police have not confirmed these numbers.

Security sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the unknown attackers were passing by on a motorbike before shooting at the checkpoint.

Attacks on army and police across Egypt have left hundreds dead since the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood government in 2013. Authorities blame the outlawed group for most of the attacks, whereas those committed in the Sinai Peninsula have been largely claimed by Daesh affiliates.
