ALBAWABA - The UN force in Lebanon announced the death of one of its peacekeepers on Monday. The UN said that a projectile hit one of their positions in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces are fighting the Hezbollah group.
"A peacekeeper was tragically killed last night when a projectile exploded in a UNIFIL position near Adchit al Qusayr," the statement read. The UN also said that another person was "critically injured."
Indonesia said one of its peacekeepers was killed and three others were wounded due to "indirect artillery fire".
The town of Adchit al Qusayr is located near Lebanon's southern border with Israel, where Israeli forces have been battling Hezbollah fighters for nearly a month after the Lebanese group joined the regional war following the assassination of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei in a US-Israeli attack on Feb. 28.
This morning, strikes were heard in Beirut's southern suburbs after an Israeli warning to residents of seven areas to evacuate.
