ALBAWABA - The United Nations revealed Tuesday that 383 aid workers were killed in 2024, mostly in conflict areas such as the Gaza Strip and Sudan.
In detail, the human rights organization said that 181 aid workers were killed during work in Gaza, while 60 others died in Sudan, which has been suffering civil war since April 2023.
The UN described the big number as due to the lack of accountability and a "shameful indictment" of international apathy. The organization also warned that the 2025 death toll of aid workers is shocking.
On World Humanitarian Day, the UN said the number increased 31 percent compared with 2023.
"Even one attack against a humanitarian colleague is an attack on all of us and on the people we serve," UN aid chief Tom Fletcher mentioned.
Tom added, "As the humanitarian community, we demand -- again -- that those with power and influence act for humanity, protect civilians and aid workers and hold perpetrators to account."
