The UAE Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the emirates Sunday re-elected President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for another five year turn as Head of State, Emirates’ official news agency (WAM) reported.
Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum was also re-elected for five more years, as it was announced by Minister of State for Supreme Council Affairs Sheikh Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, WAM said.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sheikh Zayed at Al Bahar Palace.
The Council heard a report by Foreign Minister Rashid Abdullah on UAE policy on regional and international issues as well as the latest developments in the Arab and international arenas.
According to the agency, Sheikh Zayed emphasised the council's determination to promote the Federation's march of progress.
"We have achieved what we set out to do by the grace of Almighty Allah," Sheikh Zayed was quoted as saying.
"Almighty Allah has granted us success in continuing building and helped us to achieve much more than our expectations. We have done the impossible and the dream has come true.
"Our brethren, the Supreme Council Members and I are glad about the happiness of our citizens because their welfare is our top priority. Hard work, sincerity and unity have culminated in development in record time," Sheikh Zayed said.
"The face of the country has been transformed, and security and stability prevail. We thank Almighty Allah for blessings and for help in enabling us to stand by our brothers throughout the Arab and Islamic worlds in good times and bad."
Sheikh Zayed praised the tireless efforts and cooperation of the Supreme Council Members for promoting the nation's progress.
"I pray to Almighty Allah to enable us to continue on the road of prosperity for our beloved citizens and the Arab and Islamic nations," he said.
