UAE Internet users are complaining that service is slow and that the directories are in English only and not also in Arabic, the country's official language.

The UAE telecom corporation, Ittisalat, said that it was ''very difficult'' to present its Internet users with a directory in Arabic, according to Al-Ittihad daily.

Yacoob Yusuf, a local Internet user, said that programs installation took him about two hours with many service shut downs. He also expressed anger that Ittisalat had blocked access to numerous interesting sites.

In reaction to the criticism, Ittisalat said it distributed the directory on diskettes and is now working on an Arabic version.
