Emirates Telecommunications Corp. (Etisalat) announced Sunday its third five-year plan to recruit Emirati nationals for technical and supervisory engineering posts, saying its “emiratization drive" had yielded "encouraging results,” reported the Gulf News.

The company appointed 722 nationals last year, bringing the total to 3,258.

Nationals now comprise 36 percent of Etisalat's work force, said the paper.

Abdul Aziz Al Sawaleh, executive vice-president for human resources, said that 32 percent of the national employees are women.

To achieve its "emiratization" goals, Etisalat's five-year plans are based on scientific studies, said the paper, adding that the first plan was launched in 1990, the second in 1996 and the third will be implemented this year.

The third plan is designed to increase emiratization to at least 50 percent by 2006, on the basis of an annual 10 percent increase.

"We'll continue doing our best to accommodate the largest number of nationals and arrange proper training programs to enable them to serve their country in this...field," Al Sawaleh said – Albawaba.com
