A mortar attack Sunday killed two American troops and left 16 injured at a base west of Baghdad.
According to The AP, the mortar barrage slammed into Logistical Base Seitz, on Baghdad's western outskirts, around 6 p.m. local time.
One wounded soldier was listed in critical condition.
Earlier, a car bomb exploded outside an air base used by U.S. forces near Dijiel, situated some 25 miles north of Baghdad, the U.S. military and police said.
One U.S. soldier and two Iraqi civilians were injured, said Army Sgt. Robert Powell, a spokesman for the 1st Infantry Division.
Powell said three suspects were detained near the site of the attack and taken to the base for questioning.
The injured soldier was in a stable condition after being evacuated to a military hospital, while the three Iraqis were treated at the scene, Powell said.
Witnesses said a Volkswagen exploded near the base, setting fire to an American Humvee.
Meanwhile, Iraqi activists have seized four Jordanian truck drivers for working with American occupation forces, Qatar-based Al Jazeera television said on Sunday.
A group dubbed the Jihad fighters of Fallujah said they are holding four Jordanian drivers who were transporting goods to American forces," the TV station reported. (Albawaba.com)
