A Palestinian accused of helping Israel make a hit was killed by other Palestinians on Sunday, in the day's second killing of a "collaborator."
Adnan Shahin, 38, was killed in the village of Artas near Bethlehem after allegations that he helped Israeli intelligence track down and kill an activist in Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction.
Israeli soldiers, apparently well-informed, riddled the Fatah member with bullets on December 12 after searching for him for five years on suspicion that he brought in arms through the Red Sea area.
Also Sunday, 33-year-old Hir Sultan, who served in the Israeli police during the 1987-93 Palestinian uprising, was shot in the head with two bullets by a Palestinian who came from another town, villagers said.
Israeli police confirmed the death after Sultan's brother, a resident of Hares, brought the body to an Israeli security post at the nearby Jewish settlement of Ariel.
The deaths bring to 341 the number of Palestinians killed in violence since an uprising began September 28. Some 289 of the dead have been Palestinians, along with 38 Israelis, 13 Israeli Arabs and a German.
Israeli soldiers shot dead two Palestinians and seriously injured another earlier Sunday at the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, while an activist from Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction was blown up in a mysterious explosion overnight -- NABLUS, West Bank (AFP)
