Two Lebanese, including a five-year-old, were injured Thursday when the Israeli army fired at a group of stone-throwers at a disputed religious site, Lebanese police said.
Qassem Aarandass, 20, and Mohammed Ali Qassem, 5, were shot in the hands after they hurled stones at an Israeli border post in front of the tomb of Imam al-Abbad, a holy site along the border that is holy to both Muslims and Jews.
The Israeli army regularly fires on groups of stone-throwers who have turned the border into a sort of pilgrimage site since May 24, when Israel ended its 22-year occupation of south Lebanon.
Israeli soldiers reportedly have orders to shoot on demonstrators if they feel they are in immediate danger.
At least 12 demonstrators have been killed, both Lebanese and other Arabs, and more than 40 have been injured by Israeli fire at the border over the past seven months -- MARJAYOUN, Lebanon (AFP)
