ALBAWABA- A brutal stabbing attack in Aschaffenburg, northwestern Bavaria, has claimed the lives of a two-year-old toddler and a 41-year-old man, leaving two others injured.
The assailant, identified as a 28-year-old Afghan man, carried out the attack in Schöntal Park on Tuesday evening. According to police, the motive for the attack remains unclear.
The suspect attempted to flee across railway tracks near the South Station but was quickly apprehended, leading to a temporary halt in rail traffic.
Authorities cordoned off the nine-hectare Schöntal Park, where the incident occurred, but assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
Notably, Schöntal Park had been classified as a "dangerous place" by police last November due to incidents of robbery and assault linked to the local drug scene. Enhanced police patrols in the area likely contributed to the swift arrest of the suspect.
This attack occurs amid heightened security alerts in Germany before upcoming elections, raising concerns about public safety. Investigation into the attacker's motives and background is ongoing.
