Two Jordanian brothers and an Egyptian were arrested Tuesday for allegedly counterfeiting Egyptian pounds and US dollars, a police source said Thursday.
Ahmad Mohammad Selim, a graduate of the American University in Cairo, his brother Tareq Mohammad Selim, a fine arts student, and Egyptian Essam Mahmud Ahmad produced the 100-pound notes and $100 dollar notes for circulation on the Egyptian market, police said.
At the time of their arrest Tuesday, police found $40,000 and 30,000 pounds in the Jordanians' house in Cairo.
Police seized a computer, a color printer and a scanner used for making the phony notes, along with two fake documents belonging to Cairo University and AUC.
The three alleged counterfeiters also made fake identity cards, passports, European visas, university certificates and bank checks.
The three accused appeared before a Cairo court Wednesday, and were kept in custody. CAIRO(AFP)
