Volkswagen vehicles were in the limelight at this year’s AUTOCAR Middle East Awards after scoping up three awards out of the 12 categories. Volkswagen won the most number of awards in the evening with the Tiguan taking away ‘Best Compact SUV’, the Jetta GLI winning ‘Best Family Car’ and the Passat R36 winning ‘Best Sports Car’.
The independent panel of judges for the awards went through a rigorous three day test of each of the 36 nominated cars, which included a day of static judging, on road testing and track testing to decide the winners of the 12 categories.
Iris Kraska, PR and Marketing Director at Volkswagen Middle East commented, “We at Volkswagen Middle East are extremely proud to have three of our models honoured by AUTOCAR Middle East.  It represents another milestone in the Volkswagen commitment to cater to all our clientele worldwide. Receiving these awards proves our dedication to maintaining the highest standards and raises the bar for future successes here in the region.”
“The Tiguan has been a phenomenal success story for Volkswagen, achieving record sales worldwide.  Globally it has won five awards, including the “Best SUV” award from Auto 1 Trophy 2008, and it’s great to have this award from the region under its belt,” said Kraska.
“The Jetta GLI impressively shows that it has the stuff of the winner, it breathes new passion and liveliness into the globally successful series, offering enthusiasts a modern and dynamic sports sedan.  The Passat R36 was also a clear winner with its stylish and elegant interior and exterior design, its vast list of comfort and safety features, its powerful engine and its unique demonstration of German innovation and engineering, all of which reinforce the car's premiere position as the most luxurious sporty sedan in its segment,” concluded Kraska.
