Three Lebanese, two of them journalists, were wounded late Sunday when Israelis opened fired across the border at a group of some 15 stone-throwing youths, reported AFP, quoting hospital sources.
AFP correspondent Ali Diya received a light leg wound, a Radio Canada correspondent was hit in the stomach and later underwent surgery, while an 11-year-old boy was hit in the foot and needed two toes amputated, said AFP.
It was the first act of violence along the Lebanese-Israeli border since UN peacekeepers deployed near eight border villages Saturday, said The Associated Press.
Israeli army said soldiers had fired warning shots into the air and on the ground to disperse a crowd throwing stones, bottles and metal objects, and had not intended to hit anyone, the AP added.
Israel last week warned it would no longer tolerate the stone throwing once UN peacekeepers took up their positions along the border, the AP said – (Several Sources)
