Two men sacrificed their lives on Monday to save a teenager in the Iranian northern city of Rasht where he had fallen down into a frozen well, but all lost their lives, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), quoting witnesses as saying Tuesday.
They said that driver Habib Saei, 35, and pedestrian Mozaffar Taheri, 42, jumped into the well to save 17-year-old Ali Nouri who was freezing to death, but they themselves also were stranded, and froze to death. Their bodies were recovered hours after the accident, said the agency.
The accident, says IRNA, came following heavy snowfall in the country which started last week.
Last Thursday, local press reports said that 1,200 villages were isolated because of the heavy snowfall in northern Iran and Tehran, the heaviest in Iran in three years.
All primary and high schools in Tehran and some other cities remained closed on Thursday, said the agency.
In another accident Sunday, seven people froze to death as they were trapped inside their cars in the western Kermanshah province, the agency said, quoting a paper as saying.
