ALBAWABA- A mass shooting erupted early Monday morning at Annunciation Church and its adjoining K-8 Catholic school, leaving at least 10 people shot, according to officers at the scene.
Several fatalities have been reported, though police have not yet confirmed the exact number.
The attack began around 8:30 a.m. when a suspect, reportedly armed with a rifle, opened fire during morning activities.
Emergency services rushed to the scene as authorities worked to evacuate the area and secure the premises.
The gunman’s condition and whereabouts remain unclear, with police continuing to investigate.
Authorities confirmed that the gunman who opened fire at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the parking lot.
Police said the suspect, dressed in black cargo-style clothing, fired dozens of rounds using a rifle, shotgun, and pistol. Most of the gunfire came from outside the church, with bullets sprayed through windows. It remains unclear if any shots were fired once inside.
Investigators have not yet determined the shooter’s criminal history or whether the weapons were lawfully obtained. Police stressed that the attack does not appear to be linked to other shootings that have shaken Minneapolis in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Hennepin Healthcare reported treating 11 victims from the attack—two adults and nine children aged 6 to 14. Seven patients arrived in critical condition, and four underwent emergency surgery. Doctors emphasized that, thanks to rapid EMS response and trauma team readiness, no fatalities have been reported among the injured.
“This is the second mass casualty incident in 24 hours,” hospital officials said, praising the work of surgeons, nurses, first responders, and psychologists supporting victims and families.
Police confirmed they are searching a vehicle believed to belong to the suspect and conducting additional searches linked to the investigation.
