Tanmia to conduct seminars on new technology-enabled career development services at GITEX 2008

'Career Gate' is UAE's first career guidance services portal while 'Share Point Server 2007' empowers Tanmia to automate business processes

Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority, has announced that it will unveil two new technology-enabled services at GITEX 2008, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 19 to 23, 2008. Tanmia has likewise prepared several other technology-focused employment and career-enhancement services in cooperation with leading companies during the technology trade fair.

Tanmia is set to conduct seminars about the mechanics of "Career Gate" (October 21, 2008) and "Share Point Server 2007" (October 22, 2008) as part of its main showcase at GITEX 2007. Career Gate is the first website in the UAE that provides UAE nationals with appropriate and practical career decision-making tools and information; while Share Point Server 2007 is a state-of-the-art portal that will empower Tanmia employees to manage their daily responsibilities more effectively and efficiently.

Feddah Lootah, Acting General Manager, Tanmia said: “Tanmia is taking advantage of the latest technological advances to improve the delivery of services to UAE citizens. Career Gate and Share Point Server 2007 are both excellent new technology platforms that significantly enhance our productivity and the coverage of our services to as many people as possible. GITEX will serve as an excellent venue to promote these new services as the prestigious specialised event will underscore our commitment to leverage the power of cutting-edge technology in our service to the public.”

Tanmia will also showcase its various career-enhancing tools that allow jobseekers and students to explore various employment opportunities and training programs offered in the market. Tanmia has partnered with leading companies such as Netways and Microsoft to provide free IT training to UAE nationals in support of the government's Emiratization program. Application forms and a complete list of the companies offering free training will be available at Tanmia's booth at GITEX 2008.

Career Gate, which is maintained by the Centre for Career Guidance & Planning, an entity that is part of Tanmia, offers a wide range of career development services that can be availed for free by all UAE nationals. Sections of the new portal include Career Guidance, which provides a link between users and consolers through phone, email, live chat or the advice section; Occupation, which provides different search options that assist users in finding details of the occupations available in the market; and Library, which displays the status of books that are lent out to the users.  The Library also allows users to search for books using different keywords and view the books' full details.

Share Point Server 2007 leverages many years of successful portal implementations to provide methodologies and best practices in deploying Share Point solutions. Phase 1 of the Share Point Server 2007 project is aimed at delivering the intranet infrastructure, collaboration, document management and information retrieval for all Tanmia business units. The intranet will serve as the platform and launching point for future initiatives such as workflows to automate business processes, business intelligence and other enterprise information worker solutions that Tanmia can implement in the future.
