The Middle East’s district cooling pioneer – also the world’s largest - Tabreed, scooped two awards at the International District Cooling Conference in Abu Dhabi, organised by the sector’s leading industry body.

The company won the Global Partner honour and its Chief Executive Officer, Dany Safi, scooped the Global Pioneer accolade from the International District Energy Association (IDEA) - which works to advance global environmental quality through efficient district energy.

This is the second IDEA honour bagged by Safi, who won the association’s Unsung Hero award last year.

“It is an honour to receive this award especially since it comes from fellow industry professionals and receiving it in the UAE – the place where Tabreed was established - makes its more special,” said Safi.

The honours were presented by IDEA’s President, Rob Thornton and the United States Ambassador to the UAE, HE Michelle Sison.

“It is extremely challenging to be a pioneer in any industry as this requires immense determination and perseverance to create the path ahead,” said Rob Thornton about Safi. “It is even more difficult in an industry such as ours where property developers have to be convinced to wait until a cooling plant is built.

“Dany Safi has truly been an inspiration to industry colleagues – regionally and internationally. The growth of the regional industry combined with the fact that district cooling is factored into most new and upcoming property developments, is testament to his visionary efforts.”

The International District Cooling Conference was held for the first time in the Middle East. Topics discussed included concerns being faced by the industry as well as ways and methods to improve government and industry interaction. It attracted over 300 industry professionals from 20 countries worldwide including North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

Tabreed, has been at the forefront of the Middle East’s district cooling industry and has joint ventures in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
