Reuters reports that Syrian regime forces are advancing on the city of Palmyra, with the intent to retake the city from Daesh tonight.

"We are 850 meters from Palmyra city. In a few hours(government) forces will declare the city of Palmyra completely secure, God willing," a Syrian soldier said on state television.

Daesh captured the historic city in the central Homs province in May 2015. Since gaining control of the city, Daesh has destroyed many of the ancient artifacts and used the city for public executions.
