Syrian fighter planes launched an airstrike in eastern Lebanon on Saturday, killing at least nine people, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

The attack took place in Khirbet Daoud, east of the Lebanese town of Ersal. According to the NNA, the attack killed nine Syrians and wounded nine more, some of whom women and children. The Red Cross took the victims to hospitals in Baalbek

Ersal is broadly sympathetic to the Syrian uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, and has become a transit point for Syrian refugees, as well as rebels and their weapons.

The area has been targeted on multiple occasions by Syrian forces. Wounded Syrians have also crossed the border into Ersal for medical care.
