Five police officers were killed Friday in a suspected al-Qaeda attack in the Yemeni city of Aden, AFP reported.
The masked assailants fled the scene after attacking a police station in the Basateen area of Aden, a security source said.
The latest attack comes just one day after three pro-government soldiers were killed by suspected al-Qaeda affiliated militants, also in Aden.
Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) controls parts of Aden, where President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi has set up temporary headquarters for his government, as Iran-backed Houthi rebels currently control Sanaa, the capital.
Hadi's forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, have driven the Houthis out of Aden and other southern provinces, but the rebels still control much of the north of the country.
According to UN figures, the war in Yemen has killed more than 6,100 people since March, more than half of them civilians, and plunged the country into a humanitarian crisis.
