A suspected suicide bomber died Monday morning after detonating a device near the US consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the BBC reported.
There were no other deaths as a result of the attack. Two security were officers were lightly injured as they approached the man.
Guards became suspicious of the man, and when they tried to apprehend him, the attacker blew himself up in the parking lot of a hospital near the consulate.
The attack occurred just before dawn on the US Independence Day during Ramadan.
The consulate was previously attacked in 2004, killing nine people.
The US State Department said it was aware of the attack, and that it "can confirm that all personnel under chief of mission authority are accounted for at this time."
Following the attack, the US embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a warning, telling Americans to "remain aware of their surroundings, and take extra precautions when travelling throughout the country."
