In a move aimed at promoting the labor relations between Sudan and the UAE, the Emirates’ Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Mattar Humaid Al Tayer, has been invited on an official visit to Sudan. The written invitation was delivered to the minister on Monday by the Sudanese ambassador to the UAE, Mohi Eldin Salim Ahmed. The invitation was sent by Samia Ahmed Mohammed, Sudanese Minister of Social Development, reported the Emirates news agency.
Minister Al Tayer met the Sudanese ambassador to discuss arrangements for the coming visit to the UAE of the Sudanese Minister for Cabinet Affairs, who is also in charge of Sudanese emigrants abroad. They also reviewed issues to be discussed by the Sudanese minister with a number of senior UAE officials during the visit.
The UAE is a major force in the economic progress being made in Sudan in recent years, playing a role through both governmental action and private investment. However, while the UAE has proven committed to advancing the Sudanese national economy, it has not become a large-scale importer of Sudanese workers, who make up a very small percentage of the Emirates’ work force.
Although Sudan may be interested in increasing the number of workers it sends to the UAE, any proposed change in the status quo will have to take into consideration several other factors, including the UAE’s determined drive to increase the participation of its own nationals in the workforce.
