Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir on Wednesday extended a state of emergency for another year, the official SUNA news agency reported.
Beshir, who was re-elected president in last month's elections that were boycotted by the opposition, extended the state of emergency until December 31, 2001, SUNA reported.
Amid a power struggle with his former-ally-turned rival Hassan al-Turabi, Beshir first declared a three-month state of emergency on December 12, 1999 before extending it in March to the end of the year 2000 -- KHARTOUM (AFP)
