Bahrainis are at greater risk of heart disease than those in many other parts of the world, according to a study.
“A large number of people suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure are also unaware of their problems and do not bother to consult a doctor,” said the study, cited by the Gulf Daily on Monday.
The study was conducted among a representative sample of 730 people, who attended the Bahrain National Day festival in 1998.
The paper said the results of the study were compared with similar research studies conducted in other countries.
“When we take the combination of risk factors, the prevalence in Bahrain is very high compared to other countries,” said an official.
