advantages of its eServices to students and professors of UAE University
A delegation from Dubai eGovernment Department has recently visited UAE University's College of Information Technology in Al-Ain to deliver a presentation about the advantages of adopting eGovernment applications. The event, which was attended by a large number of professors and students, aimed to enhance public awareness about the different kinds of eServices and encourage the use of these services in governmental procedures.
The presentation provided an overview about the beginnings of Dubai eGovernment, highlighting its vision and the stages it has been through since the launch of its portal www.dubai.ae in 2001. Dubai eGovernment now provides the public with more than 2000 different eServices.
The presentation also discussed the facilities being offered by the Department to other government departments, including the Government Information Network (GIN), which has been designed to connect government departments in the emirate and provide a platform for quick and safe exchange of information. Other facilities include the (Centralized) synergistic services and systems such as the Tarasol (official correspondence) system, the Government Resources Planning and Management System, which enables government departments to manage their human and financial resources, the ePay portal, the unified call centre “Ask Dubai” and the SMS Service, among others.
Khalil Saqer Bin Gharib, Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Dubai eGovernment, said: “We will strengthen our portfolio of eServices as per our plan to enhance public awareness about the importance of developing a digital society. Our visit to the UAE University was a great opportunity to familiarize the university students and professors with our vision to support the building of an integrated knowledge-based society in Dubai and the UAE in general. We invite students and the entire university community to actively participate in and support our drive by using the various eServices. Our combined efforts will surely contribute to enhancing electronic transformation in the country.”
Bin Gharib also revealed that the visit discussed the steps taken by Dubai eGovernment Department to integrate the systems and services of the different government departments, considering that “integration” has been the most difficult challenge faced by the eGovernment so far. He added that the visit shed light on the most significant challenges that faced the process of development of Dubai eGovernment.

The presentation was very informative and has helped the students and professors better understand how they can positively contribute to realising the vision of Dubai eGovernment, especially in view of the UAE's quest towards becoming a premier digital society in the region. We are very confident that eGovernance will play a positive role in modernizing the UAE society." Al-Qirim pointed out that during the past years, effective academic programmes have been instrumental in helping the government boost its future programmes.
Dubai eGovernment’s comprehensive web portal (www.dubai.ae) allows citizens, residents, visitors and businesses to access various services such as payment of municipality fees, visa applications for relatives, health card renewal, company registration and payment of traffic fines due to Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority.
