AUC has received word from the Ministry of Health that the 158 tests taken on the New Cairo Campus on June 8 have all been confirmed as negative.  These tests were taken as part of the ongoing monitoring process associated with the identification of the H1N1 virus cases in the Zamalek dormitory.

There are now 13 outstanding tests, which the university is awaiting results and those are expected by tomorrow morning.  As part of the precautionary measures put in place to manage this illness, all individuals have been hospitalized pending receipt of the test results.

The two students originally diagnosed with the flu have recovered and are expected to be released within the next few days.

The university is cooperating fully with the ministry and is taking all measures necessary to implement all appropriate protocols to ensure the comfort and the safety of the residents of the dorm during this extended period of quarantine.

For guidance on what you can do to protect yourself from catching the flu, the World Health Organization has provided advice on its website: http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/frequently_asked_questions/what/en/index.html

Based on the results received to date, administrative offices at the university will reopen as scheduled on June 14; however, due to the quarantine that remains in place at the Zamalek dormitory (which will remain in place until June 15), the university has decided that classes will resume on Monday, June 15.  The university is taking special steps to sanitize all classrooms, meeting spaces and laboratory facilities prior to the resumption of classes next week, and will also offer health briefings and H1N1 information sessions for returning staff, faculty and students.  The university will continue to monitor and adjust the schedule as necessary to ensure the health and safety of the community.

The School of Continuing Education has postponed the start of its summer term, which was scheduled to begin on June 15 until July 1.  The term will now end on August 13.  The start of the next summer term for continuing education classes will begin on August 23 and end on September 19.

The AUC community will continue to be informed as additional information is received.
