South African foreign minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and health minister Tsabalala Msimang arrived in Tehran Sunday at the head of a high-ranking delegation, reported the Iranian official news agency (IRNA).
Zuma is to attend the sixth session of Tehran-Pretoria joint economic commission and hold talks with Iranian officials on issues of mutual interest, according to the Iranian foreign ministry.
Iran-south Africa joint economic commission is to convene in Tehran from February 4-5, with participation of the Iranian and South African foreign ministers.
IRNA said the sixth meeting is to study topics including Iran’s contribution to Africa’s development, dialogue among civilizations in the African continent, and international issues such as Afghanistan and the middle east crises.
Iran and South Africa have already signed 11 agreements for expansion of bilateral ties and signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, extradition of criminals, and mutual legal cooperation, said IRNA.
They are also to discuss cooperation in the fields of early health care, production of pharmaceuticals, cooperation between Iranian and South African mining and oil companies, diversification of current relations, and exchange of goods. (Albawaba.com)
