ALBAWABA - A local security source told the media that a shooting took place near the Israeli Embassy in Amman, Jordan, leading to the killing of the assailant and injuring three policemen.
According to state news agency Petra, police shot a gunman who fired at a police patrol in Amman's Rabiah neighborhood, citing public security. Investigations are ongoing.
Witnesses told Reuters that Jordanian police had closed off an area near the heavily policed embassy after hearing gunfire. Two witnesses said police and ambulances rushed to the Rabiah neighborhood, where the embassy is located.
According to a security source, authorities asked residents of the area to remain at home while they searched for the shooters. The area around the heavily guarded embassy is well known for hosting major protests against Israel.
Since October 7, thousands have taken the streets surrounding the embassy almost daily in protest of the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza.
