Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Wednesday hinted at a possible assassination of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat.

Sharon told the Israeli state-run radio that the Jewish state would "take action" against Arafat as it did against Hamas leaders earlier this year.

Israel assassinated both Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yasin in March and his successor Abdul Aziz al Rantisi in April of this year.

Sharon noted in an interview with the Israeli Hebrew newspaper Yediot Ahranot that Israel might either assassinate Arafat or expel him from Palestine.

"We acted against the heads of Hamas… and when the issue of dealing with Arafat comes up, we will act in the same fashion."

Sharon said Arafat was sworn to Israel's destruction and that he deserved to be killed. (albawaba.com)
