The opening session of a Lebanese war crimes trial of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres will be held on Wednesday in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, according to a statement released Monday by Lebanese lawyer May Khansa.
Sharon and Peres will be tried in absentia.
Lebanon’s Daily Star reports that the hearing is scheduled to take place at the court of Chief Beirut Investigating Magistrate Hatem Madi, and will include testimony from Ammouneh al-Younes, a Palestinian, and Farida George Jeha, a Lebanese.
The number of plaintiffs bringing charges against "Zionist terrorists" has reached 21, most of whom "miraculously" survived massacres at Sabra and Shatilla, Khansa's statement said. (Albawaba.com)
