Another exciting week of competition kicked off at the Pepsi Sport Fiesta with the second series of basketball and football matches of the schools tournament.

Returning for a second year the Sharjah American School performed superbly with its boys football and basketball teams making it through to the semi-finals. Highlights included the schools football match against Al Ibdaa Scientific School which saw star player Saad Al Nuaimi score a hat trick.

“Last year we just missed out on winning the final against Dubai International School, but this year we intend to emerge victorious, as we have trained harder than ever before,” said Abdul Kareem, Sharjah American School’s football coach. “We have very strong teams participating and we look forward to some great games leading up to the finals.”

Institute of Applied Technology, newcomers to the Pepsi Sport Fiesta, defeated Ahmed Bin Hanbal School. The team will now compete against Ahlieh Khayrieh School in the basketball senior’s semi finals this Thursday. The match should prove exciting as they will have to contend with Ahlieh’s star player Mohammed Hani for the chance to win one of two Chevrolet Spark passenger cars in the final.

In collaboration with the UAE Schools Federation, the Pepsi Sport Fiesta basketball and football school tournaments feature 54 teams from various UAE intermediate and high schools. This week will see the start of the girls basketball tournament, with opening matches between Ahlieh Khayrieh School and Alhekmeh Private School, and Adndalus Private School versus Sharjah American School.

“This year we have seen some exceptional sporting talent at the Pepsi Sport Fiesta. Excitement is mounting as we get closer to the finals taking place in the first week of March,” said May El-Labban, Marketing Projects Manager, Dubai Refreshments Company (DRC), the sole franchisee and distributor of PepsiCo products in Dubai and Northern Emirates.

Even if they are not registered to take part, youngsters are invited to use the Pepsi Sports Fiesta facilities at the Global Village site free of charge, every day from 5:00 to 11:00pm, until the end of February.

Dubai Refreshments Company (DRC) offers opportunities to win additional prizes including MP3 players, mountain bikes, games consoles and gift vouchers throughout the Pepsi Sport Fiesta. More information can be found at the official website www.pepsisportfiesta.com.
